Every line the estimator offers, with what it costs and what it promises
The estimator is the price list, and it is a good one: each line prints its day range, its success rate and its limits. Two help pages disagree with it about transit time. Plan on the estimator.
The published tariff
The lines, as the estimator returned them
Twenty-three lines to the US, fifteen to Germany, sixteen to the UK for a one-kilogram parcel of clothing. Each carries a day range in working days, a delivery-success rate, a tariff status and its own size and weight limits. The cheapest US line also prints where last month's parcels landed, counted in five-day bands: 55.6 percent within fifteen days, 93.1 within twenty.

Germany's cheapest line posted a 99.7 percent success rate on the day; the US lines cluster at 97. Coupons shown on the estimator reduce the displayed dollar price; they are promotions with end dates and are not counted here.

How weight is billed, and the traps in it
Chargeable weight is the greater of actual weight and the box measurement, but the divisor and the rounding step belong to the line rather than to the destination, and the estimator prints both in View Details. Of the 54 lines we pulled, 39 divide by 8000; six US lines divide by 5000 and nine lines across the three destinations by 6000, which makes a bulky parcel heavier on paper. Rounding runs from one gram to a full kilogram: the cheapest US line rounds up to the next fifty grams, seven other US lines round to the next 500. Some freight lines also carry minimum billing weights of 1.5, 22 or 27 kilograms, and a light parcel on one of them is billed at the minimum. Any side at or over ninety centimetres triggers separate packaging.
Then the two payments. What you pay at submission is the estimate. After packing, the actual is charged in My Shipments; pay the difference or receive it back. Rehearsal packing for twenty yuan removes the surprise by weighing the real parcel first.
Two pages, two transit times, one payload

One help page says warehouse to door in five to twelve days. A newer one says about fifteen to thirty depending on destination. The estimator disagrees with both and with itself: its US air lines run from 7-12 to 15-25 working days, with the cheapest of them at 15-20; Germany starts at 7-14 and reaches 45-65 on its one surface line; Britain starts at 8-14. It backs the cheapest US line with a measured distribution. The payload is the newest and the most specific, which is why the lookup ranks it above both pages.
Order processing has its own clock: orders placed between nine and six Beijing time are purchased within six hours, overnight orders by two the next afternoon; Taobao sellers ship in three to seven days. For the domestic leg the operator publishes its own matrix from the Xiamen warehouse: one to two working days from the Pearl River Delta, three to five from the Yangtze delta, about seven from anywhere remote.
Insurance and compensation, with the windows that void them
Three plans attach to every line. Loss and damage: total loss refunds product and shipping, minor damage pays a six-dollar coupon. Customs seizure: fifteen percent of the shipping if seized, full value if clearance fails after ninety days with documents, nothing if the recipient did not cooperate. Delay: fifteen, fifty or a hundred percent of shipping at one and a half, two and three times the promised days. Every line also prints a free promise of an $8.36 coupon when it runs late, though not on one clock: thirty days overdue on 47 of the 54 lines and forty-five on six, which are the EUB and EMS lines to the United States and Britain, one German DHL line, and the cheapest British line in the table above. The German surface line waits seventy. The threshold is printed per line, under the days.
| Plan | What it pays |
|---|---|
| Loss and damage protection | Total loss: product value and shipping refunded. Partial loss: value of the missing items. Minor damage: a six-dollar coupon. Severe damage: product value, plus shipping if everything is damaged. |
| Customs seizure protection | Seized after dispatch: 15% of the actual shipping cost. Clearance fails for another reason after 90 days: 100% of product and shipping with documents. Nothing if the recipient did not cooperate with customs. |
| Delay protection | Over 1.5x the promised time: 15% of shipping; over 2x: 50%; over 3x: 100%. The October to January peak adds ten business days to the promise. |
Without insurance, compensation follows each line's own standard, and claims are void after seven days from signing or forty-five from shipping. Delay alone is never compensated outside the paid plan.

Declaration, VAT and what cannot travel
Start with the word in the Tariff column, which is doing more work than it looks. Tax free does not mean no tax is due on the parcel; it means the line quotes no duty of its own, and the payload carries a tariff amount of zero against it. DDP means the line settles duty on your behalf and bills it back: the two US lines marked that way add CN¥50, which shows up as the clearance line and nowhere on the fee page. Duties Payable by Recipient is the plain label for leaving the bill at your door, and four lines across the three destinations carry it, one of them Germany's surface line.
European VAT sits outside all three. The UK and the EU abolished their low-value exemptions, so VAT is due from the first unit of value. Under 150 euros or 135 pounds the operator says its system collects that VAT when the order is placed or the parcel submitted, which is a charge separate from every shipping figure in the tables above; over that threshold customs may add duty on top, and the parcel is likelier to be opened. The operator publishes neither the rate it collects nor the base it applies it to, so for Germany plan on roughly a fifth of the declared value on top of the figures above and check the order screen for the exact line. You declare, itemised or as one total the system spreads, and the operator's own examples of an unreasonable declaration are three pairs of shoes at one dollar, a ten-kilogram ring, and a thousand dollars against two hundred of goods. Customs risk, returns and destruction costs fall on the recipient.
Refused for shipment: tobacco, alcohol, blades of every kind down to letter openers, magnets, gas lighters, liquids over 150 millilitres, medicines, batteries on most lines, and counterfeit or infringing goods, which the warehouse may destroy. Small cosmetics, under 100 millilitres each and 200 in total, are attempted.

At the door: the windows close fast

Inspect the outer box in front of the courier; refuse or sign with remarks if it is damaged. If you could not, keep the box and the sealing tape and report with photos and the invoice within two working days for a carrier claim; one page says two days, the other two working days, so plan on 48 hours. Anything else within 72 hours of signing. After a normal signature the operator takes no responsibility, in its own words.
